I have played N.O.since 1959 and am stil doing so in Cardiff and anyware. I married a Lancashire lass and have had the great pleasure in hering guys at Raikes hall, aHotel on the front Blackpool fylde coast stompers Festival Jazzmen at Poulton and my favorite band at thonton cleveleys, Garniners the Wyre Levee Stompers. Ihave not been up for many years now and I see that the trumpet has changed it used to be a man called Ron with a big belt around his belly. he probably won't remember me but please give my regards to Andy he dropped me off once in Thornton after a session in the Gardiners with Lawrence banjo. I was very sorry indeed to hear that clarinettist and band leader Chris Blount had died just before Xmas. Chris was one of the very finest New Orleans style players in the whole of Europe, and played a lovely George Lewis-influenced clarinet. He will be sorely missed. My love and deepest condolences go to Chris's family and friends.

Sorry to inform you but the Trumpet player in the Festival Jazzmen happens to be my Father, and you write in your BRIEF report that his reasons for leaving the band are medical. This is not true. He has his own reasons that I don't think have anything in the slightest to do with you and your homepage. From Jack Johnson.
You misquote, it said health not medical, but sorry if this item has upset you, I will remove it. I can only print what the band leader tells me - FB

Thanks for your reply to my message. And I accept your apology, but there is one more thing you could do for me. In the text about my Father could you please add that he is available for gigs, because the article suggests that he may not be. This would please me and my Father. Thank you. Jack Johnson.

Fred, Thanks for adding that extra bit for me and my Dad, he'll be pleased to hear you have done so. He did actually get a phonecall once from someone, not too sure who, but they had seen the webpage before changes and had assumed that my Father was not available. So in doing this I hope that he will get some more phonecalls thanks to your homepage. Thanks again. Jack Johnson

Interested to view your Web site for the first time.We run a Saturday evening Jazz Club on a weekly basis- mainly Traditional, some Mainstream. Is there merit in including our programme in your listings? Perhaps we are on the wrong side of the Pennines! Then again, keeping music live is probably more important than partisan condiderations. This month's programme includes Fylde Coast, Boston Tea Party and Savannah Jazz Band.

We attended the 50th birthday bash for the Merseysippy Jazz Band last month in Liverpool. It was a great time. Truly a history making event. We have been friends of the band since their first trip to Sacramento. We have traveled to Hartley's to hear the band nine times since 1985.We are looking forward to their visit to Sacramento this May.We wish to thank the band for the many years of entertainment they have provided, asking nothing in return. Music for the sake of music, fun for the sake of fun, and friendship for the sake of friendship. That is the Merseysippy Jazz Band. Our best to them all, Lynn and Jim Foster

Nice pages man, I was looking for some places to book some Jazz groups I have on tour in the UK and came across your site, I have a DUO Show coming over July 7-19 and I need some fill in dates. It's a fun show Of Early Jazz performed by America's Banjo-ologist & his Fiddle playing wife GORDY & PAMELA OHLIGHER, on antique Banjos and such, funny witty, musically great, all situations considered while in the UK. I also Have an incredible Black New Orleans Brass Band that is kicking butt all over Europe at the major Jazz & Blues & yes even Rock Festivals, and will be looking for some fill in dates in June & July & Aug. maybe even Sept. We go over the pond several times a year.

Great page Fred, have been able to recognize a number of names on the page including that amazing hot trumpeter Arthur Stead whose band I last heard back in the late 60's, if my memory serves me Arthur played/led a great band called 'Silver Bell', He had a female drummer who was...hot as hell. I was in the RAF those days and visited a number of Manchester band venues, with them. Have been in Australia for a year now, after living (existing) in New Zealand for 30 years, born in Leeds Yorks, home of many good musicians, my partner and I have been instrumental (forgive the pun) in spreading the jazz word. A confirmed Colyer/Lewis Bunk fan myself, I wrote a jazz magazine with my partner, giving it away after 8 years, that was in New Zealand which is a dry spot so far as N.O. Jazz is concerned however, I would inform all interested that ex Frog Island clarinetist Chris Anderson play regularly in New Zealand and until recently was with the Bill West Jazz Band, in Wellington N.Z.There's great jazz and great musicians in Australia which is why partner Jan and myself came over to live in Melbourne. We have good Jazz contacts. I was pleased to read of Arthur Stead who played/led the 'Silver Bell Jazzband in Lancashire sometime in the 60's.
